Hi there friends! Have you finally decided to take home your "PUR-fect" friend? Or do you know someone who is eyeing on one? You need to check out this article before bringing your new companion home! Here are 5 things you should know before owning a Chihuahua!

A Chihuahua is renowned for being the smallest dog breed in the World, but he usually has the biggest personality in the room! And that personality is what makes the Chihuahua so appealing to men and women alike. They grow up to between 6 to 9 inches tall and weighs between 3 to 6 pounds. A Chihuahua typically lives up to between 10 and 18 years.

1. Chihuahuas are perfect for the apartment

Chihuahuas are small and energetic, but they do not need much space for their comfort. They are comfortable in tight spaces in apartments largely due to their small stature.

2. Chihuahuas are great companions

Chihuahuas are amazingly affectionate housemates. They are very smart and adaptable. They love to follow you everywhere you go. When you’re out in the yard, in the kitchen or even when you’re Netflix and chilling, you would see your Chihuahua laying by you on your couch, just to be there for you for those very sad moments.

3. Chihuahuas are like a family member

Chihuahuas are amazing with your family and children and can easily fit in. He loves being around them and can easily entertain for hours! Everyone would love him! But, when he sees you with other dogs and strangers, he will start to feel uneasy. On the plus side, this actually makes them good guard dogs, but their small stature leaves much to be desired. Therefore, close supervision and much vigilance is needed if you are going to have one, while taking walks in the yard or the park.

 4. Chihuahuas have relatively poor health

Chihuahuas are prone to shivering when they are cold, excited or scared. This is especially so when they are out in the exposed environment. They do not have very thick fur and can easily catch a cold. Chihuahuas are also prone to a couple of health problems such as luxating patellas, which is a kneecap issue, hip dysplasia, which may lead to arthritis and also heart diseases.

5. Chihuahuas can take over your life (if you let them)

Chihuahuas have huge personalities and will take control of your life if you let them. When bored, they can be disruptive, and if their food is worried over, they can become picky eaters. If you don't set ground rules and keep to them, you'll find yourself giving up your favourite chair because your pet has commanded you to relocate.

So is the Chihuahua for you?

So, these are some of the personalities of a Chihuahua. If these tick your boxes, then the Chihuahua might be the perfect dog for you. And remember, before you go out and shop for a Chihuahua, always consider adopting one first.
